If there is one room that screams that Diwali is coming, it is the kitchen! Suddenly, there are more snacks to prepare, more sweets to store and more meals to cook, more dishes to wash and of course, more guests asking "Kuch help chahiye?" while somehow making the kitchen even more crowded.
As a self-proclaimed kitchen product shopper, I think pre-Diwali preparation is the perfect opportunity to finally replace that scratched pan, organize the container mountain and buy the kitchen gadget that I have been adding to my wishlist for months.
But the goal isn't to buy everything that looks useful.
The goal is to make the kitchen cleaner, better organized, easier to cook in and ready for everyday use as well as festive hosting.
This Day 5 of the Diwali Home Renovation series covers the kitchen and dining essentials worth checking before Diwali from cookware and appliances to storage containers, sink organisers, dinner sets and serving accessories.

1. Start With a Quick Kitchen Inventory
Kitchen is the most liveliest yet dangerous part of the house and keeping an eye on items that are already a part of your kitchen can help in ensuring the safety of the house. Before jumping into Diwali shopping, take a quick tour of your kitchen cabinets. Trust me, there's a reason this step is necessary.
You might find out that:
You already have the product
you actually have five of the same product, or
you have the product, just an old version that makes much more sense to upgrade from.
Start with your cookware, appliances, containers and dining items that you use most.
Check for:
- Deep scratches or worn off non-stick surfaces,
- loose handles,
- warped bottoms,
- rust or corrosion,
- damaged or hard-to-clean lids,
- and hard-to-clean surfaces.
Unless it's all in excellent condition, add it to your replacement list.
For your appliances, look out for:
- Damaged cords or plugs,
- unusual sounds,
- inappropriate function,
- damaged blades,
- cracked jars,
- clogged filters,
- and missing accessories.
You don't want to find out your mixer-grinder has retired just as you're starting to make your festive specialties.
2. Cookware That You Are Likely To Actually Use
Whether it's frying snacks, making sweets or preparing curry and gravies, your cookware is going to get put through the wringer for Diwali.
Rather than splurging on a massive cookware set, be realistic about what you're likely to need.
Useful types of cookware to invest in:
- Non-stick pan,
- kadai,
- deep saucepan,
- tawa,
- pressure-cooker,
- handi or casserole,
- steamer, and
- heavy-bottomed pot.
Check out the Amazon recommendations for efficient, durable and affordable cookware options on sale right now!
You should always check into the material, size, handles, and lid when buying cookware before Diwali. Maintenance and compatibility with gas or induction stoves are also important factors.
My personal rule of thumb when it comes to buying kitchenware is to buy the pan that solves my problem, not the pan that looked nice in the advertisement.
3. Kitchen Appliances That Will Help You Get Through Festive Cooking
This is where my inner shopaholic is in danger of being let loose, because suddenly every kitchen appliance seems necessary to the festivities. A little planning on our end can help in allowing us to actually spend our time with our family rather than with utensils in the kitchen.
However, there are a few that are actually worth investing in.
Check out our blog on the best appliances that you can add to your kitchen this festive season and make festive cooking easier!
Air fryer is a pretty versatile appliance that can be used for roasting, reheating, frying and crisping foods with less oil.
Things to look out for when buying an air fryer include the capacity, temperature range, preset cooking modes, basket size, ease of cleaning, power consumption and availability of accessories. If you have a family of five who love fried snacks, a bigger basket will be more useful than a smaller one, even if the smaller one is cheaper.
Also check our special blog on list of best affordable air fryer options for this festive season!
Another appliance you might want to consider buying or upgrading is the mixer grinder.
If you're the type of person for whom a mixer grinder is an essential part of their Diwali cooking process, look for the motor's capacity, sizes of jars, blade quality, wet and dry grinding capabilities, noise level, warranty and availability of extra jars.
A food chopper can also come in handy if you have to chop lots of onions, vegetables, herbs, nuts, etc. It can be particularly useful if you're cooking multiple dishes and need to prepare ingredients faster.
An electric kettle is a must for making tea and coffee, and can also be useful for preparing instant meals, hot beverages or hot water for cooking. When looking for an electric kettle, keep an eye out for comfort, extra safety features and whether the inside is easy to clean.
Microwave ovens serve a variety of purposes for festive cooking, including heating and cooking food. However, if someone in your family always ends up doing the reheating, it might be a good idea to see if your current microwave oven is still functional before buying a new one. When looking for a microwave oven, always consider your needs and the space you have at your disposal. If you're buying a new microwave, you should think about capacity, heating efficiency, number of cooking options and ease of cleaning, among other things.
4. Storage Containers Are Basically Kitchen Heroes During Festive Seasons
When it comes to Diwali, your kitchen seems to transform into a storage unit. Which means it's time to pay some attention to your storage needs.
HomeStrap Select Spin & Store Rotating Grain Dispenser
If I can make my daily dal, rice or grain routine quicker, I’m interested! A rotating grain dispenser keeps frequently used staples organised and accessible, while the spin-and-store design can make reaching for everyday ingredients much less of a cabinet-opening-and-searching mission.
Avoid buying containers with complicated lids since having to open fifteen of them to get to one spice is quite an ordeal.
Pro tip: Before buying storage containers, measure the space you have on hand to ensure that you're not buying needlessly small or big sizes.
5. Kitchen Organisers That Actually Make Life Easier
Your kitchen doesn't need more space, it needs more organisation. And that's where these nifty little helpers come in.
Some of the most useful kitchen organisers include:
Amazon Basics Slim Rolling Storage Rack – 3-Tiered Shelf
If my kitchen has one tiny gap doing absolutely nothing, I’m putting this rack there. Its slim three-tier design and wheels make it handy for keeping spices, cleaning supplies, bottles or everyday essentials organised and easy to move around.
JIALTO Double Row Hanging Cup Holder Rack with 12 Hooks
This is exactly the kind of small kitchen upgrade I love because it turns unused cabinet or shelf space into extra storage. With two rows and 12 hooks, it can keep cups, mugs or lightweight kitchen accessories off the counter and within easy reach.
8 Hook Wall Mounted Hook Rack
Because apparently I need a designated place for every kitchen towel, apron and little accessory before festive cooking begins! An 8-hook wall rack helps keep frequently used items organised and off the countertop, making the kitchen feel less cluttered when things get busy.
Go Hooked 12 Inch Under Shelf Storage Basket
I’m always looking for that little bit of extra storage without making the kitchen feel more crowded, and this under-shelf basket does exactly that. It slides onto an existing shelf to create another storage level for lightweight kitchen essentials, making those unused spaces actually useful.
These handy little helpers can make your life exponentially easier by helping you store cutlery, brushes, scrubbers, sponges, dish-draining racks or even your spices in one designated place rather than having to search through fifteen different drawers for a single spice.
HOMEZE® Foldable Over The Sink Dish Drying Rack
This is exactly the kind of kitchen upgrade I love for a busy festive season—it uses the space over the sink instead of taking over the counter. The foldable stainless-steel rack can be used for drying dishes, cups, utensils or even washing fruits and vegetables, then rolled away when you need the space back.
The most useful kitchen organisers are the ones that make something easier to find, rather than something you have to look for.
6. Things That Can Make Dishwashing Less of A Chore
Let's be real, nobody wants to wash thirty-five dishes after a Diwali party. But if you have guests visiting, you can't really avoid it either.
So rather than buying decorative kitchen items, maybe it's time to invest in something that can make your life a little easier around the kitchen.
A good sink-side setup can go a long way in making dishwashing a faster and more efficient task.
Amazon's kitchen cleaning section also has several useful kitchenware-related cleaning accessories like scrub brushes, sponges, dish racks, cleaning cloths, dish brushes, etc.
MARKWELL 3-in-1 Kitchen Sink Soap Dispenser with Sponge Holder
I love a kitchen product that clears up the sink area while doing more than one job. This 3-in-1 setup combines a soap dispenser and sponge holder, keeping your dishwashing essentials together and within easy reach—especially handy when the festive dishes just keep piling up!
PANCA Dish Drying Kitchen Mat | Large Water Absorbent
If there’s one thing I don’t need during festive cooking, it’s a constantly wet kitchen counter around the sink. This absorbent drying mat gives dishes and utensils a soft, convenient place to dry while helping catch excess water and keep the surrounding area cleaner and more organised.
7. Dinner Sets That You Will Actually Use For Your Diwali Guests
The last thing anyone wants is to find out that their beloved dinner set is missing two plates, has three chipped bowls, one odd spoon, and six mismatched glasses when their guests have arrived.
If you know you're likely to be hosting people over Diwali, take a good look at your current dinner set and see if you need anything else.
When choosing dinner sets, keep in mind quantity, material, stackability, dishwasher and microwave friendliness, and design. A dinner set that is going to serve you well on both your Diwali dinners and your regular Tuesday night dinners is always a good investment.
Check out the Amazon's official website for affordable and sturdy dinner sets recommendations!
8. Servingware For Your Diwali Snacks And Meals
This is where your dining room gets its moment in the spotlight.
If you have snacks, desserts, appetizers, and main dishes to serve, you're going to need some servingware to help you do it.
Some of the most useful serving pieces for Diwali include:
Check out the Amazon's official website for affordable and sturdy servingware recommendations!
- large serving bowls,
- snack bowls,
- serving trays,
- platters,
- serving spoons,
- dip bowls,
- dessert bowls,
- glass serving dishes,
- water jugs,
- and tea/coffee serving accessories.
Pro tip: Rather than buying servingware for every single type of food, buy stackable, multipurpose serving pieces that can serve several purposes at once. For example, one medium-sized serving bowl can be used for salads, raita, snacks, fruits, and desserts. This way, you get the most out of your kitchen purchases without having to fill up too much space in your kitchen.
9. Dining Accessories That Can Help You Set An Organised Table
Your dining room table doesn't need an overhaul, it needs some accessories to make it feel more organised and put together.
Some accessories that can help you achieve this are:
placemats,
table runners,
cloth napkins,
napkin holders,
coasters,
serving trays,
table organisers,
salt and pepper sets,
and water pitchers.

Whenever possible, go for washable and reusable items so that you can make the most out of your purchases.
10. Quick Cleaning Before Diwali
I'm not going to ask you to spend a week cleaning your kitchen before Diwali. All I'm asking for is a quick cleaning. Before Diwali, clear out your kitchen of any expired, broken or rarely-used items.
Before Diwali, quickly:
Declutter: Remove expired ingredients, broken tools and things you never use.
Wipe: Clean countertops, cabinet handles, shelves and frequently touched surfaces.
Clean appliances: Wipe the exterior and clean removable parts according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Wash containers: Clean old storage containers before refilling them.
Clean the sink: Remove food residue and wash the sink area thoroughly.
Check the fridge: Remove expired food and wipe shelves before stocking festive ingredients.
Clean as you cook: During the festive period, wiping spills and cleaning tools immediately can prevent the kitchen from becoming overwhelming.
How to Shop Smart During Diwali Sale 2026
Now comes my favourite part: the festive shopping tabs.
The Diwali season can bring plenty of festive discounts, but a big percentage besides a product doesn't automatically make it a good deal.
If you are shopping for kitchen products during Diwali Sale 2026, compare:
- Current selling price
- Previous price
- Product specifications
- Seller
- Warranty
- Return policy
- Bank discounts
- Cashback
- Delivery charges
- Final payable amount
For bigger purchases such as air fryers, mixer grinders, microwave ovens or other kitchen appliances, compare the exact model rather than comparing only the brand name.
Watch these festive shopping keywords
You may come across searches such as:
- Diwali kitchen deals
- Kitchen appliance offers
- Festive discounts
- Diwali shopping 2026
- Great Indian Festival 2026
- Big Billion Days 2026
Amazon has confirmed that Great Indian Festival 2026 begins October 8, with home and kitchen among the categories included in the event.
Flipkart's Big Billion Days 2026 is also reported to have early access from October 8 and the main sale beginning October 9.
However, individual kitchen products, discounts and bank offers can change, so check the actual product page before purchasing.
Final Thoughts
A Diwali ready kitchen does not have to be something straight out of a catalog.
It has to be functional.
Right cookware makes cooking easier. A good organiser reduces clutter. Durable storage containers make managing ingredients easier. The best appliances make preparation faster. And the right dining essentials keep things from going chaotic when guests show up.
So while you are Diwali shopping 2026, focus on what you need in your kitchen to be able to do your everyday tasks better.
Compare prices, specifications, festive deals and go for the products that will continue to serve you long after the diyas have been packed away.
After all, the ideal Diwali kitchen is not always about the biggest purchase.
Sometimes it is about wondering why you did not buy something sooner.
